Joe Chalakee, SFG 1, RKC, DVRT Master Trainer

Joe Chalakee is not new to kettlebell training. Prior to founding Kettlebells South Bay and teaching kettlebells in the Torrance he started working out with kettlebells in August of 2007. Originally, his kettlebell workouts focused on improving his performance in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In time, he expanded his use of kettlebells to enhance muscular definition, cardiovascular conditioning, and enhanced strength and endurance.

Joe expanded his interest in kettlebell training into formal education settings designed to promote specialized knowledge in the subject. In December of 2007, Joe began training with Dr. Mark Cheng, Sr RKC , an expert in the Russian Kettlebells Challenge (RKC) and the founder and Head Instructor of Kettlebells Los Angeles.

After a year of intensive study, Joe became a RKC-Certified Kettlebell Instructor in August 2008 under Pavel Tsatsoline. This has allowed his leadership of Kettlebells South Bay to follow the same established system of proper instruction as found in the RKC and  Kettlebells Los Angeles branch.

Joe expanded his teaching credentials to include the growingly popular Battling Ropes training by attending John Brookfield’s Battling Rope Certification in August 2010. In July 2011 Joe attended and passed Josh Henkin’s D.V.R.T. Certification for Ultimate Sandbag training .  In November of the same year Joe earned his Certified Indian Club Specialist certification under Master RKC Brett Jones. January 2012 he added the TRX Instructor to his qualifications as a trainer.

Joe has been teaching at Kettlebells South Bay to hobbyists, martial artists, and fitness enthusiasts of all backgrounds. In addition to his background in kettlebells, he holds a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Rey Diogo and a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate under James Yabe Sensei 8th Dan. Joe also has trained extensively in Judo and Kyokushinkai karate.

Joe is also a former professional BMX bike racer with ten years of experience in the sport.

Joe offers beginner, intermediate and advanced kettlebell, Ultimate Sandbag and battling rope group classes at Kettlebells South Bay in Torrance. He is also available for private and small group training. Please check the schedule for times.

Jason Hidalgo, SFG 1, DVRT Level 1

Jason Hidalgo has been involved with fitness for over 15 years in gyms all over Southern California. Before he could drive he would find ways to get down to the local YMCA and mimic what the adults would do in the weight room. As the years progressed so did his fascination with different forms of exercise. Jason would experiment with different styles, adding what worked to his mental toolbox and discarding what yielded little or no results. As his body/mind matured, so did his goals. This led to a wide variety of training programs which included: putting on muscle mass, loosing body fat, becoming faster, increasing strength and endurance among others. Most recently his training goals have involved injury prevention and after his own shoulder surgery, injury rehabilitation.
